Story of Dinghy

Compact Freedom by Portless

The Smallest Member of the Portless Range

The Portless Dinghy is the smallest model in the Portless portfolio.
It was specifically developed for travel, with a strong focus on compact transportability.

When packed, the boat fits into an exceptionally small space and can be easily folded into a 100 × 70 × 70 cm package.

Once inflated, however, its 3.2-meter length and 2-meter width provide comfortable and safe travel for up to four people.

Development and Market Introduction

Development of the Portless Dinghy began at the end of 2023, and the model was officially introduced at the 2024 Balaton Boat Show.

Its growing popularity is primarily due to its compact size and competitive pricing.
Importantly, the manufacturer placed strong emphasis on quality, using the same materials as those found in larger Portless models across the product range.

Second Generation – Subtle Refinements

Compared to the first generation, the second-generation Portless Dinghy underwent minor but meaningful updates, including:

  • Improvements to the ladder
  • Expanded color options
  • An optional EVA deck pad available as an extra

The core objective remained unchanged:

to create a highly portable boat that still delivers a high level of comfort.

Third Generation – Practical Enhancements (Early 2025)

The third generation was introduced in early 2025, bringing further functional improvements such as:

  • A revised engine mount, allowing for a wider range of engine compatibility
  • Additional grab handles
  • A more user-friendly ladder

This generation became particularly popular among campers, hikers, and caravan travelers, thanks to its ease of transport and quick assembly.

Intended Use and Limitations

It is important to note that the manufacturer does not specifically recommend the Portless Dinghy for commercial use.

Due to its compact dimensions, the Dinghy is:

  • Significantly less stable than its larger sibling, the Portless Trinity
  • More demanding to operate
  • Not designed for roof access

However, these trade-offs are balanced by its superior transportability, and the boat can be fully assembled in just 7 minutes.
