The Evolution of a Portless Icon
The Redesign Begins (March 2023)
The design of the second generation Portless DeLuxe began in March 2023. Following extensive testing and market introduction of the first-generation DeLuxe I, the design team concluded that the model required a fundamental redesign.
As a result, development immediately shifted toward creating a wave-resistant boat capable of safely carrying up to 10 passengers.
DeLuxe II – A Major Technological Step (June 2023)
The first Portless DeLuxe II was completed in June 2023. This model already featured groundbreaking innovations and patented solutions, including:
- A concealed outboard engine integrated into the helm station
- A fully redesigned hull with significantly improved handling characteristics
Despite these advances, the development team recognized that further refinement was still needed, particularly in areas such as:
- Replacement of mounting points
- Limiting the number of engines to a single unit
- Optimization of seating positions
- Further development of roof and swim ladders
To determine the next development steps, the first DeLuxe II models were placed with rental operators, generating substantial real-world customer feedback. This input directly fueled the rapid development of the Portless DeLuxe 3rd Generation.
DeLuxe III – Refinement Through Feedback
With the third generation, designers felt that “only a few small adjustments were necessary.” In reality, 71 modifications were implemented compared to the previous generation.
Key improvements included:
- A more user-friendly ladder system
- Functional upgrades to the helm station
- A completely redesigned mounting system
- Final, fully integrated seating positions
Additionally, optional accessories were introduced into the portfolio, most notably:
- The slide, which soon became the signature feature of DeLuxe models
This generation also marked the first appearance of rear stabilizers, breaking away from the previous trimaran hull configuration.
DeLuxe IV – Visual and Functional Refinement
The Portless DeLuxe 4th Generation was essentially a facelift of the previous model year. Proven structural elements were replaced with refined components, enhancing both:
- Aesthetic appeal
- User-friendly design
This generation saw widespread adoption by rental companies and service providers, becoming available across the United States and numerous European markets.
Its popularity grew rapidly within the boat rental industry, as many customers recovered the full purchase price of their Portless DeLuxe within the first year, making it an exceptionally strong investment.
A New Era Begins – Lucy (2026)
In 2026, everything changed. As all Portless boat models adopted names ending in “Y”, the Portless DeLuxe received a new identity.
The model was officially renamed Portless Lucy.
